U. Beckley “Beck” Tavan, 92, of 765 Maple Heights Drive, Galion, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Village Care Center after a one month illness.

Born December 23, 1912 in Omar, W. VA., he was the son of the late Joseph Tavan and Olive Buskirk Tavan. He married Trevelyn Plack Tavan on July 11, 1954 and she survives.

Beck was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran a member of American Legion Scarbrough Post #243, Galion and was an avid gardener all of his life. He retired from the former Galion Iron Works where he was an assembler.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Charles Lowry of Glouster and Betty and Ken Combs of Irving, Texas; ten grandchildren, Christy Hanson, James Tavan, Terri Dolbier, Bradley Tavan, Steven Lowry, Sondra DiFranco, Lisa Bowen, Lari Reininger, Diane Crepe and Dr. Michael Combs; 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Joe Tavan of Apple Grove, W.VA.; a sister, Rosalie Rood of Grove City; an aunt, Inez Newman of Pennsylvania and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Tavan, three sisters and a brother.

A Graveside Service will be held at Beale Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove, W.VA. Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Samuel J. Buehrer officiating. Interment will be in Beale Chapel Cemetery.
