Thurman Wallace Garrett

Thurman Wallace Garrett, age 91, of Westerville, OH, passed away Saturday morning, November 30th, 2019 at Countryview of Sunbury.

Thurman was born in Durham County, NC, the son of the late Luther and Lelia Garrett. He married Patsey Ruth Sprague, on February 28, 1949, and shared nearly 71 wonderful years together. He worked as a salesman for Anderson Bolds before retiring to spend time in Fort Myers, FL and Port Clinton, OH.

Thurman was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and, in 1983, served as Potentate of the Aladdin Shrine Temple. He was dedicated to the philanthropic efforts that benefitted the patients of the Shriners Hospitals and burn institutes.

Throughout his life Thurman loved boating and fishing, creating many wonderful memories with children and grandchildren alike. As a younger man he enjoyed travel, water skiing, and horses. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, with a great sense of humor and commitment to family.

Thurman is survived by his wife, Patsey Ruth Garrett; son, John (Lisa) Garrett and daughter,  Cathy Dybdahl of Westerville, OH; son, Ron (Kathleen) Garrett of Dublin, OH; 10 grandchildren, Jessica (Marc), Victoria (Taylor), Cameron (Kayce), Jeremy, Michael, Daniel (Quinn), Mary, Sarah (TJ), Meghan (Zackary), and Christian; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandson, Nathan Garrett.

Thurman’s family will greet friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. St. Rt. 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury, Ohio.  A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate his life will follow at 4 p.m., with Linda Huling officiating.  Burial will take place in Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville,  at 3 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019.
