Thomas W. “Tom” Van Horn, age 57, of Cardington died unexpectedly on Friday morning, January 27, 2006 at his residence.

He was born in Galion, Ohio on October 16, 1948, the son of the late Jim and Francis (Carpenter) Van Horn. Tom was a graduate of the Highland High School Class of 1967, and a lifelong resident of Morrow County.

After graduation, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army, and he was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

On June 5, 1971, Tom married his loving wife of almost 35 years, Lillian (Southward) Van Horn in New Bloomington, Ohio, where she was raised.

Tom worked as a welder for the Perfection Cobey Corporation in Galion, and at the Flexble Corporation in Delaware. Most recently, Tom and his friend, Don Davidson, sub-contracted work together hanging drywall.

Tom was an active member of the Knox County Men’s Bowling Association. In addition to bowling, Tom enjoyed playing bingo, traveling to casinos, playing video games, lottery tickets, and spending time with his grandchildren. Tom will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Tom leaves to cherish his memory his children Tonja (Mike) Judd of Somerset, Thomas Wayne (Ann Arnold) Van Horn II of Iberia, Tracy (Andy) Smith of Caledonia, Troy Van Horn of Cardington, and Tara (Rob Hobson) Van Horn of Mount Gilead; his grandchildren Ceva-Jade, Kassie, Aubrey, Thomas III, Dallas, Shelby, Caitlin, Jacob, and Dylan; 7 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild; his brothers Ed (Norma) Van Horn of Fredericktown, John (Donna) Van Horn, and Kenny (Lois) Van Horn both of Bellville; his sisters Jane (Jim) Plogher of Chesterville, and Patricia (Eddie) Carpenter of Bellville; his sister-in-law Sherri Van Horn of Mount Gilead, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother Gene Van Horn on December 14, 2003.

The family will greet friends on Monday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Craven & Snyder Funeral Home, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ken Boswell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
