Thomas Joseph Connell, III

March 03, 1939 ‒ July 17, 2020

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Thomas Joseph Connell, III passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family.  He was 81.

He was born March 3, 1939 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Thomas Joseph Connell, II and Bernadine Weigers Connell and was graduated from Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1957.  He also attended Davenport University where he earned his associates degree.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Tom served three years and was proud of his service.

On August 4, 1962 he married Dianne Elaine Daniels with whom he celebrated nearly 58 years of marriage.

Thomas worked for Conrail Corporation where he served on the Corporate Quality Council and Quality head in the Albany, New York Division.  He retired with over 35 years of service.

Thomas was a ferocious reader and simply loved John Wayne.  Unfortunately, Tom was diabetic for he had a love affair with sweets, including sponge candy and coconut doughnuts.  He was the family baker and made a mean queso.

There was nothing Tom valued more than his family and he enjoyed time spent together.  Thomas leaves a legacy of kindness and a strong work ethic.

He is survived by his loving wife Dianne Connell of Mansfield; three children Joe (Kathy) Connell of Erie, PA, Colleen (Patrick) Mingarelle of Columbus, and Daniel Patrick of Singapore;  three grandchildren Thomas Connell of Lexington, Michael Connell and Valerie Connell both of Erie, PA; siblings Susan O’Connell, Michael (Michelle) Connell, and Margaret Mary “Molly” VanBlack.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister Sharon Smith.

A family memorial mass will be held at Resurrection Parish in the future to be determined by COVID restrictions.

Donations in honor of Tom may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Snyder Funeral Homes is honored to serve Tom’s family and encourage you to share a fond memory or message of condolence to them at SnyderFuneralHomes.com.
