Thomas James “Tom” Hard, 78, of Johnstown passed away Saturday morning, December 2, 2017 at Countryview of Sunbury after a longtime battle with MS.

He was born July 22, 1939 in Columbus to the late Harold and Marguerite (Sears) Hard and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and attended The Ohio State University. He served in the United States Army Reserves and on May 2, 1964 he married the love of his life, June Marie Pfeifer at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Gahanna.

Tom has been a resident of Johnstown since 2001 coming from Minerva Park. He was President of Harold D. Hard Company and owner of T J Hard Companies.

He was a member of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury.

Tom held memberships in the following organizations: National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors President 1981-1983, North Columbus Jaycee’s President 1975-1976, Jaycee Senator #21525, Ohio Jaycee Senate Life Member #22, Jaycee Arms Apartments for Seniors Founding Member, Northland Jaycee Member, Northland Sertoma Member, and Northland Lions Club Member.

He was also a proud Buckeye and avid pool player.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife June; children, Lisa (Patrick) Lawler of Johnstown, Edward (Lisa) Hard of Sunbury, Jayme (Kevin) Scheiderer of Columbus, and James (Dianne) of Sunbury; grandchildren, Tyler (Amanda), Sean (Kaitlyn), Katharine (Derrick), Andrew, Matthew, Michael, Rachel, Joshua, Samantha, and Jenna; brother, John (Sue) Hard of Minerva Park; sister-in-law, Angela Hard of Westerville; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother William.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 5-8 PM at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9633 State Route 37 E, Sunbury, with Fr. Paul Noble officiating. Burial will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

  • June, my condolences for you and your family’s loss. Tom was a true and sincere friend to me and your loss has had me reliving so many wonderful, sometimes crazy, times our click had together. Most memorable was the time we shared together while serving together in the military. In spite of having lost contact with you and Tom for far too many years I’ll truly miss one of the better friends I’ve ever had. God bless you for being by his side as long as you could before your loss.
