Thomas James “Tom” Bower, age 76 of Sunbury and formerly of Newton Falls, Ohio died Tuesday morning, April 25, 2017 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born on July 18, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of the late Thomas Franklyn and Ruth Marie (Reese) Bower.

Tom was a 1958 graduate of Champion High School where he ran track and was a star baseball player, going on to play in the minor leagues.  He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, worked for the steel mill in plant protection for many years, and was a volunteer paramedic.

In addition to his stellar high school sports career, Tom enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing pool later in life.  He was, “Mr. Sports”.  He also loved the outdoors and would fish and hunt as well.

He will be missed by his sister Marilyn and her husband Randy of Sunbury who Tom lived with for many years; daughters Rhonda Lynn Davis and her husband Carl of Burghill, Ohio and Cindi Peterson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; step-children Kenneth Fox of North Canton, Ohio and Kimberly Romine and her husband Lee of Newton Fall, Ohio; his brother Raymond Bower of Leeds, Utah; and 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Donald D. Bower.

At Tom’s request funeral services will not be held.
