Thomas J. Slagle Jr., age 53 of Sunbury, OH, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home in Sunbury after a courageous 10 month battle with cancer. He was born September 16, 1966 in Columbus, OH to the Kathryn (George) Slagle and the late Thomas J. Slagle Sr.

Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his wife of 30 years, Tona (Johnson) Slagle; sons: Thomas (Katelyn) Slagle III, and Tyler (Sarah Bickel)Slagle; granddaughter, Raelyn Slagle; mother, Kathryn Slagle; sisters: Cindi (Andy) Shay, and Debbie (Brandon) Mitchell; mother-in-law, Bonnie Johnson; brothers-in-law: Tye Johnson, and Troy Johnson; sisters-in-law: Tammy (Wayne) Bohm, and Traci (Al) Helton; and several other relatives and friends.

Tom was a professional flooring installer by trade. He was adept at a variety of construction related skills, and built his family’s own home. He was the first person in his family to move from the big city of Columbus to his own 23 acre private paradise in the country. Tom enjoyed riding motorcycles and quads, woodworking and construction projects, and traveling with his sons. He restored a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner, which he enjoyed showing at classic car shows. Tom loved gathering with friends and family at his home, and laughing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his father, Tom was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Larry Johnson.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 27, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. SR 61, Sunbury, OH.

  • Tona, Kitty, Cindy, Debbie,, Tommy and Tyler…always enjoyed our neighbors over on McGuffee..such great memories w/ u’re kids and ours..Jimmy and Tommy not only thru school but stayed friends until the end. I don’t know about Debbie..if she had a crush on Jimmy but I know Tommy was one of Christines first crushes..
    I was tickled because he felt comfortable enough to called me “mom” .. he was a good kid..
    The one memory that sticks out in my mind was about 1979 -80 .. I was looking out my kitchen window and could see the water tower from my window and in big red painted letters was painted Jimmy lovs’ Bo.. did u ever here that story?? Something he and Tommy cooked up together!! I didn’t here the complete story behind it until yrs. later..
    So wonderful u have Tommy jr. and Tyler nearby and grandkids to carry on his memories and to comfort each other as life goes on.. He will always be in our hearts and memories.. Ruth,Jim, Jimmy and Christine 🤗❤️❤️

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Tom was an excellent flooring installer and always very professional. I enjoyed working with him over the years at Continental Office. He had a great sense of humor and always quick with a joke. You couldn’t help but laugh once he started laughing!
    I last spoke with him in the summer. He had a positive attitude and great outlook!
    It was a powerful reminder we need to enjoy those we love each and every day.
