  • To Eudora and all the Mitchell family:

My beloved cousin, Tom Mitchell, was a good man. Tom was both strong and humble. He was kind gentle and steady. Tom exhibited a mild temperament. He could always be trusted and he loved all of us. He gave me my first job at 17, right out of high school, helping him, Bud Craig and Herbie Cole lay cinder block in and around Delaware.

He was the family patriarch. When I visited Delaware last year he reminded me that I was a Heathcock. He took the time to drive Eudora, Shirley Walker and me to visit his sister Doris and her husband, Bill Fowler in Dayton Ohio and treat us all to dinner.

I was blessed while in Ohio to spend several hours with Tom and Eudora. They were beautiful together.

I love each and every one of you and I will miss Tom sorely. I can only hope and pray that his strength, love and generous kind spirit remains among and in all of us until we each depart. The world is just a little better for his pilgrimage among all of us.

In recent years we talked regularly by telephone. He shared family history with me. I will miss him greatly.

May God bless your sweet soul Thomas Albert Mitchell. You were among the best. Rest in peace.

    Your loving cousin,

Jack Leon Brodnax Jr. and wife, Shirley
