Theron D. Harris Sr., age 86 of Delaware died Monday afternoon, June 30, 2008 at Riverside Methodist Hospital

He was born on September 13, 1921 in Springfield to the late Clarence and Othella (Jackson) Harris. While in Springfield he worked for International Harvester, now Navistar Corporation before moving to Delaware in 1962. He retired from the Delaware office of the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he worked as a equipment operator.

He will be remembered for his helping hand and willingness to help those in need of a meal or a place to sleep. A good swimmer throughout his life, he managed to save the lives of three individuals from drowning. Theron enjoyed fishing, games of all sorts; including bridge, checkers, and backgammon. In his younger years he was an avid hunter of small game. With a happy go lucky personality, he was even tempered, always uplifting and a good provider. Most proud of his children and family, he constantly reminded his family that he had led a full and pleasurable life.

Survived by children: Charleen Webb of Springfield, Brenda Fisher of Delaware, Theron (Linda) Harris Jr. of Delaware, Diane (Eddie) Haynes of Radnor, 9 Grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren, 3 Great-great-grandchildren, and dear friend Jeanie Angus.

Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Louise L. (Banks) Harris on September 16, 1999.

Friends may call Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware, where services will follow at 5:00 p.m. Sunday with his brother-in-law: Rodney Banks officiating. Graveside services will follow Monday 1:00 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware.
