Theodore R. Ashbaugh, age 91 of Sunbury died Thursday evening, January 17, 2008 at Countryview of Sunbury
He was born on December 5, 1916 in East Liverpool, Ohio to the late Theodore R. and Georgia K. (Paul) Ashbaugh. A disabled US Army veteran of WW II, he had resided in the Sunbury area since 1959.
On Saturday, January 19, 2008, his wife of almost 67 years; Gladys V. (Smith)Ashbaugh, whom she married on January 22, 1941 in East Liverpool followed him in death.
Theodore had worked as a custodian for the Harrison Elementary School in Sunbury and over the years had worked for the Village of Sunbury in various capacities with the water and sewer departments, as well as a caretaker of Sunbury Memorial Park.
A lifetime member of Benson Hough American Legion Post No 457 and V.F.W. Post #8736, he was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Sunbury Lions Club. Spirited and fun loving, he was a former volunteer fireman for the B.S.T. & G. Fire Department and had attended the Sunbury United Methodist Church.
Survived by daughters: Janice Jones of East Liverpool, Joyce (Bob) Wiese, sons George (Ginny) Ashbaugh of Jacksonville, Florida, Terry (Carol) Ashbaugh of Malta, Ohio, 14 Grandchildren, numerous Great-grandchildren, 2 Great-great-grandchildren, sister Virginia Price of Columbus.
Preceded in death by Great-granddaughter Shawna Michelle Wiese.
A combined memorial service for Ted and Gladys Ashbaugh will be held Monday, September 22, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bruce Benzing officiating at Sunbury Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.
