Thelma L. Satterfield

Thelma L. Satterfield, age 77 of Centerburg passed away Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014 at Mt. Carmel East after suffering a stroke in January.
Born in Berlin Township on October 18, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Walter (Bud) and Frances (Cole) Covrett. A graduate of Sparta High School in 1954, she was class Salutatorian and played on the girls’ basketball team.
A resident of Centerburg for over 50 years, in 1958 she married Robert Satterfield and together they shared 43 wonderful years raising a family and caring for each others needs. He passed away in 2001.
She worked in several capacities over her career as a secretary for Rockwell International and Centerburg High School. For 23 years she sold Tupperware and served as an area manager, she also operated Bailey-Lowery & Associates Veterinary Supply Co. in Mt. Vernon for a brief time.
For 45 years Thelma was a devoted member of the Centerburg Christian Church and where she played the piano, organ, and assisted in the activities of the church. Her other memberships include the Auxiliary of AMVets Post No 59 and the Sunbury Eagles Auxiliary. Thelma’s civic duties included working the polls and serving as an election judge in Centerburg.
An avid sportswomen and fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, during her years with the Centerburg School System, she founded the Pep Club, she also refereed for the girls basketball and volleyball teams and served as the boys basketball score keeper.
Her passions and joys included bingo, playing cards, reading, laptop computer games, travel, and visiting casinos. She enjoyed the thrill of playing black jack and trying her luck at Wheel of Fortune.
Classy and with an easy going personality, she took pride in her appearance. Thelma lived her life by the book, always taking the high road, even though not always an easy one.
Her greatest joy was her family, spending time with each and every one and doting on their every need. She was at her best traveling the world, most especially a recent cruise to Alaska.
Those left cherish her memory include her children Cheryl Brenner of Delaware, Joyce (Bill) Phillips of Sunbury, Robert (Diana) Satterfield Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Amy Young of Centerburg, beloved grandchildren Megan and Drew Brenner, Linda (Chris) Crumrine, Crystal (Craig) Pierson, and Ryan Young, great-grandchildren Morgan, Thomas, Keith, and Austin; her only sister Barbara Smith of Marengo, her close Uncle, Dale (Charlotte) Covrett of Delaware, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and treasured friend Judy Campbell.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers Marvin and Darold Covrett, nephews Larry Thomas (Tommy) Pryor, Ronald Pryor, and Charles (Chuck) Jackson, Jr.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held 10:30 Friday and burial follow in Eastview Cemetery.
