The Reverend Richard D. Freseman, age 89, of Mount Vernon, died Friday August 10, 2007 at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. Pastor Freseman was born in Akron on November 16, 1917 to Claudius A.D. Freseman and Alma Marie (Roess) Freseman. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute High School in 1935; attended University of Maryland one semester and graduated from Capital University at Columbus, Ohio in 1940; and earned his degree in theology from the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus in 1944. Pastor Freseman had been a faithful servant of his Lord, serving churches at First Lutheran Church in Portsmouth, Ohio; Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Spencer, Ohio; Zion Lutheran Church in Homerville, Ohio, St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Massillon, Ohio; St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota; Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem, Ohio; Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville, Ohio and Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center, Nebraska. Following his retirement in 1983 The Reverend Freseman along with his wife founded mission churches in Morganton, Georgia and Mebane, North Carolina. They served as volunteers on the Navajo Reservation in Rock Point, Arizona and did several interim ministries, and pulpit supply for several years.

He had been a member of the Loudonville Lions Club for 29 years.

Surviving are his wife Doralee (Hoffman) Freseman whom he married June 6, 1944; his son and daughter-in-law David R. and Debra Freseman of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren Kathryn (Bradley) Smith, Deborah Freseman and Adam Freseman and two great grandchildren Camden Freseman and Zoe Smith Besides his parents, two brothers Claudius Freseman Jr. and Henry Freseman and two sisters Dorthea Thompson and Hilda McKim preceded Richard in death.

Friends may call at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio on Sunday August 12 from 6 PM to 9 PM. And Monday August 13 at the church one hour before the funeral. Funeral services will be Monday August 13 at Noon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Loudonville with The Reverend Terry Ruther officiating, The Reverend Mark Wildermuth preaching and The Reverend Robert Michelfelder lector Burial will follow at Loudonville Cemetery.
