Sylvia Joan ‘Jo’ Nininger Mitchell

Sylvia Joan “Jo” Nininger Mitchell, age 78, of Cardington, died Sunday morning, October 11, 2015, at home with her loving family by her side following an extended illness.

On February 21, 1937, Jo was born in Richmond, VA, the daughter of the late Alvy W. and Hazel (Austin) Nininger.  She graduated from Marengo High School in the Class of 1956.

Over the years, Jo was a homemaker and helped her husband run his trucking business.  She attended Fargo Wesleyan Church, and was a former member of Ladies Auxiliary F.O.E. Cardington, Olive Green Grange, and the Morrow and Delaware Co. Antique Tractor Assoc.

Jo was a great cook, enjoyed doing word searches, and loved spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jo is survived by her son, Carlos (Kim) Mitchell of Cardington; two daughters: Cathy (Dale) Adams of Cardington, Carolyn (Steve) Morlan of Mount Gilead; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; three brothers: Robert (Susie) Nininger of LaRue, Thurman “Buzz” Nininger of Marengo, Lewis (Thelma) Nininger of Centerburg; a sister-in-law, Wanda Nininger, of Marengo, and her Chihuahua, Candy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Ivan H. Mitchell, a great granddaughter, Mira Tucker; a brother, Shelby Nininger; two sisters: Shirley Stambaugh, Phyllis Nininger; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Nininger.

Jo’s family will greet friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Hulse officiating.  Burial will follow in Marengo Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, Jo’s family asks that memorial contributions be made to Snyder Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
