Sue Carol (Parker) Staight

January 03, 1930 ‒ October 21, 2018

Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD:  Sue Carol (Parker) Staight, age 88, of Mansfield passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 in the Arbors at Mifflin following a short illness.

She was born January 3, 1930 in Ft. Wayne, IN the daughter of William Len and Helen (Stirlen) Parker and grew up in the house her father built near the St. Joe River.  Sue graduated from Northside High School in 1948 and attended art school.  She clerked at Wolf and Dessaur Department Store before she married and became a full time homemaker, wife and mother.

On June 3, 1950 she married Robert Eugene Staight with whom Sue celebrated 67 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2017.

Sue was the quintessential 60’s homemaker with skills and talents far exceeding the average housewife.  She could cook, sew or accomplish any task needed to care for her family.  She was a wonderful supporter of her children in all of their activities and enabled her husband to pursue his dreams.  Sue could be counted on to get costumes prepared for their clown appearances, pack and prepare for camping trips or flights piloted by Robert, volunteer in the classroom, and lead the Girl Scout Troop.  As her children became more independent  Sue worked as teachers aid for Ontario Middle School many years.

She loved holidays and spent countless hours preparing to make every holiday special.  She enjoyed nature and animals.   She was a capable gardener, canning the harvest to keep her family fed through the winter months.  She and Robert loved to travel in their 1946 Erocoupe remembering fondly their 50th anniversary trip when Bob flew them to Alaska and home.

Sue was a member of Lexington Church of the Cross, and with Robert, she was active with Ruth Chapter Eastern Star #17 also serving as Worthy Matron.

Sue  is survived by a daughter Kathryn Garber of Grosse Ile, MI, son Dr. Daniel Staight of Casper, WY; three grandchildren Joseph Parker (Theresa) Tobergte, Obrion Daniel Staight, Isabeau Ruth Staight; three great grandchildren Joseph Arthur, Matthew Robert and Benjamin Parker;  special friend and caregiver Becky (Tony) Mangus, along with nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by two sisters Ellen Mary (Parker) Prill and Alice (Parker) Rennecker.

Friends may call Monday, October 29, 2018 from 4-8 pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where Eastern Star services will be held at 3:45 pm.  A memorial service honoring the life of Sue C.  Staight will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am at the funeral home.  Pastor Glenn Hamilton will officiate.  Interment will be at a later date in Eel River Cemetery, in Allen County, IN.

Memorial contributions in honor of Sue may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.
