Steven D. Miller, age 61 of Delaware died unexpectedly Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Marysville Memorial Hospital.

Born on February 17, 1951 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late William and Mary (Brown) Miller, he graduated in 1969 from Covington High School in Indiana. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree in 1975 from Purdue University. Working as a jammer or tour guide at Glacier National Park, he was in charge of transportation at Lake McDonald Lodge where he met his beloved wife of 36 years: Lisa (Kern).

He taught math at Delaware Hayes High School from 1975-1979 and then served as a teacher’s assistant at The Ohio State University until 1980, when he received his masters degree. Steven was currently working as a senior systems analyst at Chemical Abstracts Services, a position held since 1980.

Always full of energy, he enjoyed a busy life. He was a faithful and dedicated member, trustee, and finance committee member of William St. United Methodist Church, also served as assistant scoutmaster and webmaster for Boy Scout Troop 318. When his children were young he coached their various sports, for 25 years served as the statistician for the Delaware Hayes Boys Basketball team and was the assistant girl’s basketball coach at Delaware Hayes in the 70’s.

As one who loved the outdoors, he also enjoyed cycling, geocaching, and hiking. He was also a high school volleyball referee. Kind spirited and easy to befriend he was described as genuine. Generous in every aspect of his life, “he gave and loved doing it”. He enjoyed reading mysteries, traveling, photography, and physical exercise. He also favored a sweet tooth, especially ice cream and apple pie.

Happiest amongst family and friends, he will be remembered for his unique laugh and for leaving an unforgettable impression. Simply put….he made a difference.

In addition to his wife Lisa, those left to cherish his memory include children: Robert D. (Barbara) Miller of Grovetown, GA, Stephanie Anne Miller of Delaware, sister: Rebecca (Ralph) Roarks of Covington, IN, mother-in-law: Carole Kern, sisters-in-laws: Melia (Don) Hyatt, Jill (Craig) Cunnington, Nancy (Gary) Ruby, Susan Moeger, bothers-in-laws: Tim (Renee) Kern, Brad (Maria) Kern, nieces and nephews: David Meter, Mike, Joe, Carly, and Lindy Cunnington, Jeremiah, Sarah, and Zach Hyatt, Rusty (Jen and son Damian) and Amanda Roarks, Thomas and Tim Moeger, Sasha Kern, aunts: Betty Ann Martin and Nancy Baker, uncle Bob Mackley, co-conspirator: Bob Bright and a host of friends.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 Tuesday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at William St. United Methodist Church, 28 W. William St., Delaware with Pastor Julie Carmean officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to William Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, Pancreatic Cancer Research at John Hopkins University, or Boy Scout Troop 318.
