Steven Bruce Edwards, age 70, of Sunbury, died peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at his residence.  Retired after 34 years of service with the Ball Corporation.

Born April 7, 1950 in Columbus to the late Gordon M. and E. Beth (Saunders) Edwards.  Graduate of Big Walnut High School.  Veteran U.S. Air Force, Viet Nam.  Member of VFW Post #8736 Sunbury and American Legion Post #457 Sunbury. Steve loved his country, was very patriotic and a devout Republican.  He was an avid OSU fan, enjoyed reading, his cats and dining out.  His favorite time was spent with his family, his daughters, grandchildren and coffee with his brother.

In addition to his parents Steve was preceded in death by his niece, Debbie Swisher and brother-in-law, John Bailes.

He is survived by his devoted daughters, Shelly Edwards and Stephanie (Keith) Minor all of Sunbury; grandchildren, Cassie Edwards, Andrew Downard, Keith Brown, Katie Brown and Kayla Brookins; great-grandchildren, Cayden and Grayson and a great-granddaughter on the way; brother, Gary Edwards of Galena; sister, Karen Bailes of Sunbury.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 11, 2021 at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 N. State Route 61, (at SR 3), Sunbury where the family will be receiving friends from 12 noon until time of service.  Pastor Larry DeWitt officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County, 4920 State Route 37 East, Delaware, OH 43015 in Steve’s memory.

We used to make fun of one another in the break room at MCC2.We discussed our Vietnam experiences back in the day when no one spoke of it. I worked with Steve for 29 years and never heard a bad word as to his work ethic. I haven’t seen Steve in over 15 years but I know he will be sorely missed. RIP

  • I have been Steve’s neighbor for 10 yrs. I was always happy to see him when he would go get his mail, I’d always give a hello Steve, and a big wave. He would always give a big smile, a Hi back, with a how are you today. I going to miss that. And seeing him out mowing the yard. He will be missed. Sending my love and prayers to his family.
