MANSFIELD: Steve G. Olexa, age 73, of Mansfield passed away Friday afternoon, June 3, 2011 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.
He was born June 26, 1937 in Bellaire, the son of Steve and Mary (Barnes) Olexa and was graduated from Bellaire High School.
Steve served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded the Sharp Shooter Badge and was honorably discharged following a year and a half of service. He continued his patriotism as a member of AMVETS and American legion Post #16.
A 53-year Richland County resident, Steve worked as a lineman for AT&T retiring in 1991 with 36 years of service.
Social and active, Steve was a member of Sons of Herman and also the Loyal Order of the Moose. In his down time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and golfing.
While his children were growing up, he coached baseball at Mansfield Southwest Little League. He was an active father who showered his children with unconditional love.
Steve is survived by a daughter Laura L. Olexa of Cincinnati, a son Steve J. Olexa of Bellville, a brother and sister-in-law Tom and Marie Olexa of Brecksville, and his companion and friend Sharon Dickerson of Bellville.
In addiation to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Anita (Knapp) Olexa in 1994.
The Olexa family will receive friends Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 6-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where the memorial service will follow at 6 pm. The Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti will officiate. Private burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery
