Stephen E. Dowler, age 65, of Mount Gilead, died on Friday morning, May 2, 2008, at his residence after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on July 11, 1942 in Columbus the son of the late James E. Dowler and Gladys (Whiteside) Neeley.
Stephen grew up, went to school, and worked in the Columbus area, living in Shawnee Hills, before moving to Mount Gilead.
On August 6, 1961 He married Carole A. Kirby in Livingston, Alabama.
As a teenager Stephen worked as a painter with his father and brother. A career he pursued for 25 years. Most recently he worked for Pinkerton Security as their security manager, working there for nearly 20 years until health issues forced his retirement.
While living in Shawnee Hills he attended the Scioto Valley Christian Union Church in Delaware and since moving to Mount Gilead has become a member of the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church.
Stephen owned several guitars and enjoyed playing all variations of music, particularly gospel and country.
He was extremely proud of his family and cherished those times spent together.
He will be missed by his wife; their children Connie (Don) Dykiel and Steven (Karen) Dowler both of Mount Gilead; their three nephews they raised as their own, Jason, Brian, and Chris Dye; grandchildren Amanda and Aaron Dykiel, Ashley Clifford, and Austin Dye;great grandson Eli; brother Hobert Dowler of Waterloo; sister Phylis Jennings of Columbus; and step-dad Duane Neeley.
Friends may call on the family on Monday May 5, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 South Main Street, Mount Gilead. Pastor Ed Colegrove will conduct services on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. the Edison Enterprise Baptist Church, 3055 State Route 95, Edison, Ohio 43320. Graveside services will take place at Oller Cemetery, near Delaware, on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Alexander officiating.
