Spencer G. Harden, age 76, of Mount Gilead, passed away Monday morning, June 29, 2020, at Marion General Hospital.

On July 24, 1943, Spencer was born in Mount Gilead, Ohio, a son of the late Herbert H. Jr. and Ethel E. (Kehrwecker) Harden.  He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1961.

Early in life, Spencer worked on the oil rigs in Morrow County.  He then took a job at H.P.M.  For many years he was the stock manager for Kroger in Mount Gilead, from where he retired.  He also worked for Edison Billiard where he enjoyed working on and restoring pool tables.  He was also a member of the AMVETS in Marion.

On July 12, 2008, Spencer married Cheryl Ann Thibault at New Life Church in Mount Gilead.  They lovingly shared the last 11 plus years as husband and wife.

Spencer was a known pool shark.  He enjoyed playing anywhere he could, especially in Columbus and Marion.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved eating anything chocolate and Jell-O.

Spencer will be remembered as a funny, hard-working man who would help anyone when they needed something.

Spencer will be dearly missed by his wife, Cheryl of Mount Gilead; his daughter, Cristina Shaw of Mount Gilead; three step-sons: David Carpenter of Columbus, Richard (Paul) Roncone of Cornelius, NC, Scott (Jenny) Berg of Kannapolis, NC; a step-daughter, Connie (Robert) Shumate of Howard; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Herbert Harden Jr. of Galion; and three sisters: Thelma Harmon of Marion, Velma (Tom) Allen of Sarasota, FL, and Wanda Watkins of Lexington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Harden; a sister, May Sutherland; and a granddaughter, Kendra Shaw.

Memorial services will be announced by the family at a later date.
