Sondra Ann McLain
February 15, 1935 ‒ July 24, 2007
Sondra Ann McLain, 72, of Ashley died early Tuesday morning at the Holzer Senior Care Center in Gallipolis, Ohio.
She was born in Delaware County on February 15, 1935 the daughter of the late Blaine E. and Edith B. (Campbell) Bishop.
After graduating from Chesterville High School in the class of 1953 she married William “Bill” McLain of Marengo on September 13th of that same year. Throughout their nearly 40 years together they spent much of their time in the Chesterville area. It was there that they raised their six children. They later moved to Cardington where they lived until Bill’s unexpected death on August 2, 1993.
Sondra will be remembered as a free spirit and her work life reflected those sentiments. She worked for the Dairy Bar H, Zales jewelry store in Marion, and sold real estate for Jim Spires Realty in Mount Gilead until her retirement in 2001.
She spent her retirement reading fiction novels and quilting. She also taught quilting classes throughout the area. While she enjoyed those activities her most important past time was spoiling her grandchildren and recently her great grandchildren. She treasured the time surrounded by her family.
She will be missed by her children April (Kevin Yeager) McLain of Gallipolis, Cheri (Jim) Berry of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kent (Lori) McLain of Edison, Lisha (Chuck) Rawlins of Kenton, and Laurie (Dave) Plotner of Galion; 14 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a brother Duane Bishop of Delaware.
