Skyler Buschman

December 14, 1996 ‒ February 17, 2018

Delaware, Ohio

Finding the right words have never been more difficult, so painful and far out of reach.  How do you put down on a piece of paper, in just a few short paragraphs, how much someone truly means to you?  How do you sum up someone’s life in so few words?  As a family we have agonized over this for days.  It was during one of these late night discussions that Alli remembered a college class assignment given to Skyler back in December 2016.  He was given the daunting task of writing his own obituary.  There is no way to thoroughly describe Skyler’s sense of humor or personality, but to those few who truly knew him, only they can understand.   His own words seem to capture who he was better than anyone else. They are as follows:

On December 31st, 2076, Skyler Buschman passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Although many of you may see this as tragedy, I would not want you to remember it like that. In fact, I would want you to celebrate my life, not grieve about my death.

Be loving. Be caring, and be compassionate to all those around you.

All of my life, I have spent it trying to make myself and others around me, my friends and my family, smile and laugh. If you had a problem or a question, I was someone you could always go to. I may have not had all the answers, but I always tried my best to find them.

Many of you may remember me as the one who always had something to smile about, and you know that it means everything to me that you all are here right now. I want you all to love each other unconditionally, and do everything you can to live your own lives to the fullest and happiest extent that you possibly can. Life is like a game, and you get to pick how to play it. Whatever choices you make, make sure they are what will make you the most happy, because in the end, that is all that really matters. Life is short, so live it to the fullest. Don’t regret decisions you’ve made, rather use that as a way to propel yourself forward and change for the better.

I want you all to know that I tried to live the best life that I could. I traveled, I pursued the career of my dreams, I married the love of my life and made many friends along the way and I hope you all are able to do the same.

May you all rest as peacefully as me when the end of your road has come. I love you all and I always will.

Never forget that.

Your love, your laughter, your smiling face, your beautiful heart…Our lives have been forever changed. We love you with every fiber of our being.  You will forever be in our thoughts, our hearts and our dreams.

Till we see you again baby…we love you…Mom (Keri), Dad (Mike), Colton, Dustin, Kai (Brothers), Hayleigh (sister), and Alli (love of his life)…xoxoxoxoxo
