Sidney Charlene (Shaffer) Webb, age 79, of Chesterville, passed away Monday afternoon, February 17, 2014, at the Morrow County Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
On June 13, 1934, Charlene was born in Johnsville, the daughter of the late Maurice and Avalee (Hershner) Shaffer. She graduated from Johnsville High School in the Class of 1952 and later attended some classes at Ohio State studying social work.
Charlene married Ernest B. “Ernie” Webb on May 9, 1954 in Johnsville. They shared over 55 wonderful years of marriage while raising eight children. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2009.
Charlene loved gardening and tending to her Hostas. She even knew the scientific name of all of her plants. She was also an avid reader and loved shopping at her favorite Amish store, “Bent and Dent”.
When it came down to it, Charlene’s family meant everything to her. She showed her love with the wonderful home cooked meals she made for them. They were especially fond of her banana pudding, broccoli salad, noodles, and cornbread, among other things. She cherished the family farm she lived on for over 50 years and the memories of the birthday’s and holidays celebrated there.
She will always be remembered for her stubborn, opinionated nature, but at the same time being everyone’s best friend. She had an answer for everything and was always there to talk to you about anything.
She will be dearly missed by her eight children: Greg (Pauline) Webb of Chesterville and their children Amber and her son Robby, Shawn, and Kayle; Sherry Webb of Edison and her children Sara and her children, Haleigh, Cameron and McKenna, Travis and his children Aiden and Brooklyn, Anthony, Christian, and Sherry’s granddaughter Sidney; Joan (Randy) Orsborn of Fredericktown and their children Aaron, Lucas, and Kara; Dixie (Rick) Pryor of Edison and their children Chelsea, Elise (Nigel) Poore and their daughter London, and Seth; Phil (Mary Beth) Webb of Marengo and their children Phillip (Alyssa) and their son Porter, David, and Evan; Julie (Jeff) Griffith of Chesterville and their children Josh (Audrey) and their children Quinn, Jude, and Cyrus; Eric (Amber), Kyle (Stephanie) and their son Lee, and Leslie (Kayne) Melko and their son Holdyn; Shelley (Keith) Sparks of Sparta and their children Caitlin (David) Spurlock and their children Tenley and Sienna, Michael, Matthew, Johnathan; Kerry (Rob) Ervin of Johnsville and their children Chad (Brandi) and their children Leah and Bella; Larissa and Rachael.
