MANSFIELD: Shirley May (Smick) Wilson, age 78, of Mansfield, OH, walked into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 26, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Shirley was born to parents Eva and George Smick on March 10, 1935, and lived much of her life in Michigan and Florida until moving to Ohio. She married Harold Wilson, who survives her, on April 24, 1954. Harold and Shirley would have been married 59 years on April 24.

Shirley was known for her hospitality, good cooking, and generous spirit. Many people, including visiting missionaries and college students, were the beneficiaries of her domestic talents and warm receptions.

Both Shirley and Harold spent the last 17 winters enjoying Florida sun at Country Aire Village in Zephyrhills. While there, Shirley was the “reigning queen”of table games and enjoyed challenging others at shuffleboard. The couple attended Zephyrhills Alliance church during those winter retreats and benefited greatly from the ministry of Pastor Paul Bartnick. While living in Mansfield, she and Harold attended First Alliance Church for many years, and most recently worshiped at the Mansfield Baptist Temple.

In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by daughter Vicki (Al) Humble; son Tim (Tammy) Wilson; grandchildren, Eric (Gina) Humble, Brad (Brittany) Humble, Kassi Wilson, Emily Wilson; great grandchildren Hallina, Clark, and Cash. Also surviving are one sister, Sadie Perault, nephew George Perault and his wife, Lois, their children Michael and Lori, and great niece, Cheryl (Beaver) Kelly and their three daughters.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Wilson. Also preceding Shirley in death are her brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 29, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Saturday, at 11 am in Mansfield Baptist Temple, 752 Stewart Road North, Mansfield.
