Shirley M. Lawrence
May 17, 1944 ‒ October 31, 2008
Mount Gilead, Ohio
Shirley M. Lawrence, age 64, of Mount Gilead passed through the pearly gates into Heaven early Friday morning, October 31, 2008, at her residence following a year long battle with cancer.
She was born in Logan, Ohio, on May 17, 1944, the daughter of the late Ralph and Beulah (Moyer) Meade.
When visiting her brother, James, at the filling station where he worked, Shirley met her husband to be, Harold Lawrence, who also worked there. Shortly thereafter, Shirley and Harold were married on March 5, 1961. Together they have shared over forty seven years of marriage.
In 1980, Shirley and Harold moved their family to Mount Gilead, where they continue to call home.
A loving homemaker, Shirley loved to be surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. Almost everyone she knew referred to her as “Grandma,” because she spoiled everyone in every way with her sweet nature.
Enjoying the outdoors, Shirley and Harold often went camping any where they could from Canada to Florida. Then, they would find the closest fishing hole and cast a line. She also enjoyed playing euchre with friends and doing jigsaw puzzles and snuggling with her dog
An avid NASCAR fan, Shirley loved rooting for Jeff Gordon who she thought was cute.
When you look around her home, it is easy to see Shirley enjoyed collecting dolphins, wind chimes and eagles, though the eagles were for her hubbie.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her husband, Harold Lawrence of Mount Gilead; four children: Frances Burch of Cardington, Rowiena Lawrence of Mount Gilead, Crystal Burch of Chesterville, and Harold “Eddie” (Tosha) Lawrence, of Mount Gilead; twelve grandchildren: Belinda Adams, Michael and Amanda Burch, Alaina and Heather Carte, Rachel Warden, Michaela Chapman, Richard, William and Kendra Burch, and Monica and Crimson Lawrence; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, James Meade.
The Lawrence family will greet friends from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mt. Gilead, where services celebrating her life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Ream officiating. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mt. Gilead, Ohio 43338.
