January 01, 1937 ‒ February 14, 2006
Mount Vernon, Ohio
Shirley I. Fowler, age 69, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon after fighting a courageous battle with Huntington’s disease. She was born on January 1, 1937, in Knox County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jessie and Mary Elizabeth (Durbin) Frye. Shirley had attended Gambier High School. She touched a lot of lives at the Laurels where she resided for the last 27 years. If you had the chance to know her, you knew of her love for food and her bullhead and stubbornness. She had a lot of love in her huge heart to give. Losing her on Valentine’s Day tells it all.
She is survived by two daughters; Judy (Rick) Cantrell of Mount Vernon and Donna Goare of Dallas, Texas, one grandson Bryan Cantrell, a brother Donnie (Mary) Frye of Mount Vernon, three sisters; Mary Edith Cosner, Betty (Dick) Hannon and Norma (Dalton) Magers all of Mount Vernon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Lingel, granddaughter Stephanie Lingel, a brother Kenneth Frye and two sisters, Janet Tucker and Doris Jo Fowler.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. Diane Cook will be officiating. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
By request of her daughters, memorial contributions may be made to HDSA, 158 W. 29th St., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001-5300 in memory of Shirley.
