Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Shirley Ann (Muddiman) Funk, age 81, of Mansfield passed away early Wednesday morning September 4, 2013 in Kindred Hospital in Mansfield, following a month-long illness.

She was born August 6, 1932 in Alexandria, Virginia to Norman B. and Mabel (McComas) Muddiman.

On October 20, 1950 she married John G. Funk in Washington D.C. The couple made their home, a Godly home, in Mansfield where they raised two children. John preceded her in death September 6, 2008.

Shirley worked at Mansfield Products (formerly White Westinghouse) from which she retired after 25 years of service.

Shirley was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed needle point. She was a creative custom card maker long before it was trendy. Shirley loved sending her handmade greetings for birthdays, anniversaries or really any occasion.

A wonderful cook, Shirley made every dish well including her Sunday roast beef dinners, and Christmas Eve Hawaiian hamburgers and sauerkraut balls.

She was a faithful servant of the Lord as a member of First Alliance Church for nearly 30 years. Her favorite Bible passage was Psalm 139, which describes in detail how God “knew [her] before [she] was born.” In her own words her Savior is “an awesome God,” precious to her heart. More recently, the past three years, Shirley was a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple.

Loving and devoted to her family, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Jenny Funk of Mansfield, a daughter and son-in-law Linda and Mark Kotchou of Lucas, five grandchildren Justin Funk, Jared and Andrea Funk, Missy and Darrick Kanady, Brittany Lee and Steven and Emily Lee; four great grandsons Cayden and Caleb Caudell, Ethan Kanady and James Lee; two sisters Fran Daugherty and Linda Smith both of Geneva, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Bratt, and two brothers Norman and James Muddiman.

Friends may call Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 9:30- 11:30 am in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the Service of Salvation will be held at 11:30 am. Pastor Rob Kurtz will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
