Ontario, Ohio

ONTARIO: Sandra Kay Borstad, age 73, peacefully passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Avita Ontario Hospital surrounded by family.

She was born July 23, 1946, in Moffit Heights to parents Morris William & Mary Elizabeth (Burrier) West and graduated from Washington High School. In younger years, Sandy was a member of Massillon Baptist Temple. After her first husband Earl K. Lashley passed away, she met Daniel Harry Borstad and they married at a fairground in 1978 and traveled around for over a decade working fairs together. They enjoyed 14 years of marriage until he passed away in 1992.

Sandy worked 20+ years as the lead cook for Winchester Terrace Nursing Home in Mansfield. She was a dedicated walker who walked to work every day and rarely drove a car. Sandy was a people-person who liked to crack jokes and make people laugh.

In free time, Sandy loved to watch football to cheer on her beloved Cowboys and also liked to watch wrestling. She enjoyed crafting intricate latch hook designs and collecting angel figurines. She was an excellent card player and was especially good at Rummy and Canasta. Her friends and family will miss her feisty personality and her delicious potato soup.

She is survived by children Mary Lamb of Mansfield, Mickie (Brett) Banbury of Mansfield, Michael Borstad of Mansfield, and Sandra (Keith) Stephens of Shelby; son-in-law Keith Higgins of Mansfield; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Michael West and Dick West.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughters May Virginia Higgins and Misty Ann Borstad; sisters Lavina Solinger and Donna West; and brothers Butch West and Timmy West.

Her family will receive friends from 3:30-4:30 pm Monday, Jan 6, 2020, in Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 4:30 pm officiated by Celebrant Dave Roberts. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly prefers contributions to assist with funeral expenses and they may be brought or sent to the funeral home (PO Box 3085 Mansfield OH 44904) or online at GoFundMe:
