Samuel James Edgar, age 84, of Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, died Saturday November 16, 2002 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on May 28, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Samuel and Helen (Hannon) Edgar. Mr. Edgar worked as a photo engraver for 20 years at Viking Engraving in Columbus, before retiring in 1983 after 17 years of service with Continental Can Company. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European and Asian Theater of War.
He is survived by a daughter, Laura Edgar of Mount Vernon, five sons, Timothy Edgar of Boulder City, Nevada, John Edgar of Reynoldsburg, Stephen (Karen) Edgar of Reynoldsburg, Mark (Jan) Edgar of Gambier, Scott Edgar of Columbus, two grandchildren, Katie Brooke Edgar, Brittany Layne Edgar, and two step grandchildren Teresa Tillman and Sherie Fraley. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Hugh Edgar.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, where a funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 AM with Rev. Joe Blevins officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
