Samuel Chester “Chet” Ward, age 82, of Marion died Monday, September 14, 2015 at Marion General Hospital.   Chet was born August 4, 1933 in Marion, Ohio to the late John Francis and Mary Josephine (Shaw) Ward.  Chet married Carolyn V. Fabian February 15, 1958 at St. Mary Church in Marion, Ohio.  She preceded him in death on July 13, 2008. Chet graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1951 and attended The Ohio State University.  From 1951 until 1968 he worked as a draftsman for Charles W. Oborn and from 1968 until he retired in 1995 as an estimator for Baldauf Construction Company.  Chet served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Columbus, Georgia.

He was an avid golfer who was proud of his two holes-in-one, enjoyed woodworking and watching the Indians, Browns and Ohio State. Chet was a member of St. Mary Church in Marion.

He is survived by children, Sue Ellen Ward of Columbus and Michael E. (Lori) Ward of Galena; grandchildren, Lauren and Jack Ward; brother, Robert Ward; and numerous golf buddies.  He is predeceased by brother, John Junior Ward.

Friends may call at Gunder/Hall & Snyder Funeral Home Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 5 until 8PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Mary Church, Marion, with Father Thomas Buffer presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
