Sallie L. Sloboda

March 16, 1947 ‒ August 02, 2018

Marion, Ohio

Sallie L. Sloboda, age 71 of Marion, passed away Thursday August 2, 2018 at the Marion General Hospital.

Sallie was born on March 16, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of John and Lucille (Hudsell) Bock. Upon graduation, Sallie attended the Ohio State University.

On September 10, 1966, Sallie was united in marriage to Frank Sloboda. They have shared 51 years of marriage and made a lifetime of memories.

Sallie will long be remembered as a consummate entrepreneur. In the early 1970’s she set out and created the first book of coupons reflecting businesses in the area and sold them to the community. She also did bookkeeping for different businesses and also would prepare taxes for businesses and individuals. Another title Sallie held was that of insurance agent. She sold accidental and life insurance for Modern Woodman. Her true passion was found in her landscaping nursery that she worked for over 10 years. She loved creating beautiful spaces for others and had the gift of a “green thumb”.  Many will remember Sallie for the amazing pies that she baked; not only pies, but cakes, breads and more. She and Frank would attend the Delaware Farmer’s Market twice a week, baking nearly 1,400 pies a year. Along with baking, Sallie loved to cook. She took pride in creating special dishes and loved serving them to her family and friends.

When Sallie wasn’t working, baking or cooking, she and Frank enjoyed traveling. She also was a member of the Bridge Club, serving as the Grand Master. Not only did she love to play bridge but also euchre, blackjack and many other card games. Trips to the casino were not uncommon and thoroughly enjoyed. Sallie was a strong and determined woman, with a heart for others. She baked and volunteered at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank serving the needs of those who came. She was loving and kind, a true friend to all and a cherished wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her devoted husband Frank Sloboda; her beloved sons: John Franklin (Lisa), Richard Lang (Kristen), and Mark Geza (Heather) Sloboda; and 9 loving grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday Aug. 9, 2018 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, GUNDER/HALL Chapel, 347 West Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral service will be Friday at the funeral home at 10AM; entombment will follow at Marion Cemetery Mausoleum.
