Ruth R. (Wagner) Sakala, age 84, of Mount Vernon, went to be with the Lord Sunday April 6, 2003 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born December 26, 1918 in Knox County to Clarence and Winnie (Smith) Wagner and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. Mrs. Sakala was retired from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in Mount Vernon where she had been employed as Payroll Clerk.

She attended the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple, was a member of the Gambier Pythian Sisters and a former member of Harrison Grange. Ruth enjoyed her family and friends and was an avid square dancer.

Surviving are her nephews Ronald (Sheila) Wagner of Chillicothe and David (Glenna) Wagner of Mount Vernon; her niece Beverly (Charles) Klinkert of Bucyrus; her sister-in-law Helen Wagner of Mount Vernon; her very close friend and companion John Patton of Utica; a stepson Kenneth P. Sakala II of Fullerton, California; a stepdaughter Karen Shute of Pinnconing, Michigan; 8 grand nieces and nephews and 2 step grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth P. Sakala in 1984 and her brother Walter R. Wagner.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where funeral services will be Thursday at 10 AM with Pastor Bill Fennell officiating. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery.
