Ruth Phillips

November 11, 1941 ‒ November 04, 2017

Mansfield, Ohio

BELLVILLE: To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to laugh and a time to weep…

And yet between all of these, is a life being lived that cannot be defined, and for a moment that life touches us all. Now we will gather to acknowledge and remember the life of a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Our family and our hearts are broken with an emptiness that cannot be described. Somehow, we will meet with one another, and together try to celebrate the story of Ruth. Maybe by sharing the joy given to us by the gift of her life, and the pain that her passing brings, we may find some way to lessen our grief, and remember the joy and sweet moments of laughter she gave us all.

Ruth Phillips passed away Saturday morning November 4, 2017 in The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She was 75.

She was born November 11, 1941 to parents Talferd & Mea (McCoy) Fellure in Pliny, West Virginia. On June 1, 1963, she married Richard J. Phillips and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.

She is survived by husband Richard J. Phillips; daughter Tammy Fry; grandsons Rizen Fry and Joe (Kristin) Gordon; great-grandsons Kaden, Kyler and Kason; brothers Bill (Verlene) Fellure and Jack (Cathy) Fellure as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Richard Lee “Rick” Philips; sisters Fay Welch and Lucille Sparks; brothers Jimmy Fellure, Fred Fellure, Doug Fellure and Erwin Fellure as well as her grandmother Bertha Duncan.

The Phillips family will receive friends Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Ruth’s life will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Lucian Baker and Doug Tackett will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

  • Dear Dick & Family,
We are so terribly sorry for your loss. I was always impressed with the BIG fight in that little person.
Ruthie was always so much fun to be around and I will cherish the fond memories & laughs with her forever. The playful way you two needled each other always made me smile and give in to the temptation to needle you a little bit myself. You always took it well, Dick. We girls had to stick together!!
It is always comforting to know that she knew her Lord and Savior and rested in His promises. I will rest in these as well until I see her once again.
Lifting all of you in prayer during this difficult time.

  • Dick and family. So very sorry for the loss of your beloved Ruthie! She was quite a lady and will be very missed. God bless and keep you during this difficult time.

  • Dick & Tammy,

It saddens me so much to hear of the loss of your wife and mother. Ruth will always be remembered by me as being a little spitfire! She always loved cracking up and telling things the way it was. I spent alot of time at your house growing up and always looked forward to having family meals with you. That was because Ruth was a good cook! I know she thought the world of you Tammy and was proud to be your mom. Dick you were an amazing and loving husband and I am sure that the care you gave to Ruth was so appreciated by her.

God sure has gained quite an angel.

    Rest in peace Ruthie.

    Love,
    Pam Mowry

  • The memories will never fade..from high school and even now, even though our Ruthie passed on to our glorious Father above, the laughter still resides in those walls in that house we all knew as “home” because that’s how we all felt when we went there, ate there, spent the night there…Ruthie and Dick we’re like Second parents to alot of us. Tam and Dick there are no words I can say that will ease your pain, but knowing how much Ruthie was loved and all the stories that we all share will help maybe just a little. I love you all and will help in any way I can to make things a little easier..GOD BLESS ..
