Ruth F. Flick

November 20, 1929 ‒ September 22, 2018

Galion, Ohio

Ruth F. “MiMi” Flick, 88, of Galion passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion where she had been a resident for the past several years.

She was born November 20, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Helen (Robbins) Werling. On September 2, 1950 she married Gene G. Flick and they were married 43 years until his passing on March 13, 1994.

Ruth graduated from the Julian School for Girls in Dayton in 1947 and later from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1950. She owned and operated with her husband G&R Travel Trailer Sales in Galion. Later in 1968, Ruth and Gene started the Flick Lumber Company in Galion. Ruth was very active in the Galion community. She was a member of the North End Garden Club, former board member of the Galion Community Hospital and Galion Community Center, headed up the Pickle Run Festival with Ferd Unkrich for many years, taught Candy Stripers for many years at Galion Community Hospital, previously played on golf leagues at Valley View and the Galion Country Club and played bridge with the Bridge-O-Rama card club.

Ruth was an amazing, kind hearted mother, grandmother, wife and friend to many people.  The love and compassion she showed to others was insurmountable. I can’t tell you how many people considered her a second mom. The staff at Magnolia Terrace (where she spent her last few years) absolutely loved her. They would often come in to visit her when they were on break.  She always had a joke to tell or a song to sing. You always knew where you stood with her because she would let you know! Feisty until the end. You will be truly missed. But this week we celebrate your life and your love for life and your family.

She is survived by sons Michael (Donna) Flick of Galion, Gary (Debbie) Flick of Galion and Kevin (Ann) Flick of Ormond Beach, Florida; daughter Kim Wilson of Debary, Florida; nine grandchildren George (Summer) Flick, Kristi (David) Stief, Jason (Katy) Flick, Shannon (Griffin) Jenkins, Erik (Emily) Flick, Adam (Heather) Flick, Kelsie (Donnie) Miller, Brittany (David) Delk and Matthew (Stephanie) Wilson; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Chadwell of Dayton and a brother Charles Werling of Atlanta, Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty Street, Galion, Ohio with Father Paul Fahrbach as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of the funeral home.

Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes in Galion is honored to serve the family of Ruth Flick, and condolences may be made to them at

  • To the extended Flick family, MiMi was a class act. A warm, loving, gracious and understanding lady. Full of wisdom and oh so charismatic. I’m sure she was a wonderful welcoming hostess. The unique thing about her was, besides being a class act… That lady knew how to have fun. There wasn’t a “stuffy” prudish bone in her body. She was a hoot! I’m sure she was the life of the party. I appreciated her straight forward honesty. We had many colorful conversations. She loved her family so much, and was so proud of your accomplishments. I have no doubt she is celebrating with her “Gene” now. Yes, we will miss her at Magnolia Terrace. But relieved her suffering was not prolonged. I think we all were touched in a positive way from having her in our lives. Thanks for sharing your MiMi with us. Sincerely,Kim Staiger

There are so many words to describe Ruth: Kind, Funny, Talented, Friend, Mom, Grandmother, Aunt, and so on. As the family remembers her accomplishments and stories of her life, she will be forever your anchor and mentor. Please accept our sympathies and prayers for Ruth passing.

  • We have so many great memories of Gene and Ruth with my mom and dad. My husband and I were remember a trip they took together to visit us in Massachusetts. They were so much fun and up for all adventures. We laughed about golf outings and their whirlwind tour of New England. I’m sure they are all playing a nice round together!

Ruth was a wonderful woman. She welcomed my mom to Magnolia Terrace and provided terrific support in her few months there.

We are so sorry for your loss and hold many happy memories of Ruth in our hearts.

  • To Mimi’s family, our deepest sympathy to Mike and Donna and to all the family for your loss. Blessings to you all. Tom and Elsie Smith

  • To Ruth’s family,
My deepest sympathy for you in this difficult time. She was a true “Angel of Mercy”.
A master at giving shots that never seemed to hurt. Keep her spirit alive in your hearts.

  • Just seeing that Ruth passed. She was always so neat, and so nice to me. She and Gene were my mom’s relatives & Godparents, and I also remember Ruth being the school nurse at St. Joe’s when I was little. My girls loved visiting her at Magnolia, and asked frequently if we could go visit with her. Love & condolences to Kim and the rest of the family. Rest In Peace, Ruth.
