MANSFILELD:  Ruth Ellen Chitwood went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 22, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Helen Mains; her husband, Steve C. Chitwood; and her stepson, Steve A. Chitwood. She is survived by her brother, William Mains; her daughter Cheryl (Gary) Van Riper; her step daughters, Bette Rae Hunt and Stephanie Wilbanks; along with 9 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren.

Ruth was a member of First United Church on the square in Mansfield, Ohio for over 80 years. She was a quiet woman who brightened the lives of everyone she met with her warm smile & sarcastic sense of humor. She traveled around the world with her husband before his passing. She enjoyed travel, cooking, crocheting, & sewing in her younger years.  In her last years she loved to read, do crossword puzzles & play dominos. She loved ice cream, and her face would light up any time she saw a baby. She was passionate about family & church her whole life and was always proud to say she was from Ohio.

She touched many lives in her 94 years with her gentle spirit & devotion to family & friends. She will be greatly missed.

Friends may call Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 10-11 am in First United Methodist Church, 12 North Diamond Street, Mansfield, where a memorial service honoring Ruth Chitwood will follow at 11 am.  Celebrant Dave Roberts will speak.  Interment will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Ruth may be made to First United Methodist Church.
