Ruth E. Harris

April 10, 1924 ‒ October 20, 2017

Butler, Ohio

Ruth E. Harris passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 in Knox Community Hospital. She was 93.

She was born April 10, 1924 to parents Lewis & Mary (Zody) Collier in Butler. After Ruth graduated from Butler High School with the class of 1942, she married Robert “Red” Harris on October 11 1945, and they spent 64 wonderful years together until he passed away in 2010.

During World War II Ruth began working at Westinghouse and later for HiLo Trailer Company in Butler. She then retired after 15 years from Clear Fork High School as a Library Aide in 1987.

Ruth attended Mount Sinai United Methodist Church, and more recently Three Crosses-A United Methodist Fellowship, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Bellville, now the Ruth Chapter #17 in Mansfield.

In spare time, she took pleasure in reading, traveling and cooking. But above all, Ruth was a devoted wife and mother and cherished spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan Harris-Heald & David Heald of Oak Ridge, TN; grandchildren Kristin Harris-Heald of Jacksonville, FL; Brian Heald and his wife Joy Morrison of Orlando, FL and Ashlie Heald of Lexington, KY; great grandchildren Maddie Heald, Katelyn Heald, and Riley Harris Hunter; sister Betty Stimmel of Fredericktown; brother Myron (Pat) Collier of McMurray, PA; sister-in-law Elaine (Maurice “Bud”) Glibert of West Virginia; nieces and nephews; and a large circle of friends.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her son Richard Lee “Rick” Harris; her brother Max Collier; and sisters-in-law Coreta Derringer, Avarilla Gossett, and Marie Lyons.

The Harris family will receive friends Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Ruth’s life will be held Tuesday October 24, 2017 at 10 a.m. Pastor Ken Kinley will speak. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery Four Corners.
