Ruth C. Rengert

December 25, 1928 ‒ June 03, 2018

Waldo, Ohio

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come,” describes the life of Ruth C. Rengert.  Ruth was a kind hearted, positive, and loving woman who went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.  Ruth was 89 years old and lived most of her life in Waldo.

On Christmas Day, 1928, Ruth was born in Marion, Ohio, one of four children of the late Clarence “Ted” and Eda (Monroe) Wright.  She spent part of her childhood on her grandparent’s farm in Johnstown, and later was in Marion where she attended Marion Harding High School.

Ruth met her husband to be, a young US Navy veteran of World War II, Donald Roscoe Rengert, in February of 1946 at 10:30 at night.  Knowing they were meant for one another, they were married, at 10:30 at night, four months later on June 7, 1946.  They shared sixty-five years of marriage, lovingly raising four children: Dane, Becky, David, and Beth.  He preceded her in death on February 13, 2012.

Ruth always made sure her husband and children were well cared for.  She also supported Donald in all of his endeavors as a carpenter, including owning and operating Rengert Lumber and Builders Supply in Waldo.

Very faithful, Ruth attended Cornerstone Alliance Church in Marion, and formerly attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waldo.  Ruth was also was one of the founding members of the Waldo Mother’s Club.

Ruth loved life and lived every day to the fullest.  She had a great sense of humor and a personality everyone adored.  Ruth was always the first person willing to go on an adventure and never met a stranger.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Dane (Henrietta) Rengert of Waldo, Becky (James) Bishop of Waldo, David (Raina) Rengert of Ontario, and Beth (John) Higgins of Hilliard; eight grandchildren: Sean Rengert, Tom Rengert, Chris Helton, Ashley Rengert, Paige Rengert, Molly Carter, Jenna Higgins and Rachel Higgins; nine great-grandchildren: Megan, Ben, Dan, Seth, Sam, Michael, Caleb, Kaylee, and Cheyanne; two siblings: Kenneth Wright and Genevieve Palmer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Wright.

Her family will greet friends from 5 until 7 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Cornerstone Alliance Church, 2010 Marion-Marysville Rd, Marion.  Services honoring her life will also be held there Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 10 am, with Pastor Timothy Miller officiating; friends may call one hour prior to the service and burial will follow in the Waldo Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Alliance Church or Capital City Hospice.

  • Dane, Dave, Becky, Beth and Families,
My deepest condolences on the death of your mom, grandma, great grandma. She was a great lady and she will be missed. I always enjoyed meeting up with her and your dad at the Rengert Reunion and the time spent with them getting family history gathered for the 100th Reunion, May God hold you all in his arms during this time of grief but also give joy as she and your dad are back together again. Wish I could be there but Washington State is a far away,. Love and hugs to all
    Karen (Himler) Jordan-May

  • So sorry for the loss of your mother, she was a wonderful soul. I spent a lot of time at her and Don’s house in Waldo as a child, her sense of humor was every bit as ornery as her husbands. She will be dearly missed. Much love and prayers for your family.
