Russel A. Worner

December 04, 1937 ‒ April 30, 2021

Bellville, Ohio

Russell A. Worner, age 83 of Bellville, peacefully passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at Avita Hospital in Ontario.

Russ was born December 4, 1937, in Richland County the son of John F. & Charlotte L. (Snavely) Worner and attended Bellville schools. He met Barbara Emma Rinehart and the pair married on December 13, 1955. The pair settled in Bellville where they raised 5 children. They were together 56 wonderful years until Barb passed away in 2011.

Russ was self-employed as a contractor for over 40 years; he especially enjoyed roofing and was considered a jack-of-all-trades. He never officially retired and liked to keep busy & teach his grandchildren the tricks of his trade.

He owned a cabin in Forest County, Pennsylvania where he loved to take his family. While there, they would ride quads and do word searches. He mostly just loved being around nature and being around his family. Another favorite pastime was mushroom hunting—especially at his secret hunting spot in Michigan.

Russ will be remembered for his orneriness. He was the ultimate nickname creator and liked to pick on his grandkids. Russ never “beat around the bush” and instead was very straightforward and honest. He enjoyed driving around town and was well known and well liked in Bellville. Russ was a diehard Cleveland Indians fan and he will be missed by many.

He is survived by sons Ralph Worner and Joe Worner, two daughters and sons-in-law Patti & Ralph Fry and Carol & Keith Bechtel all of Bellville; five grandchildren Cora (Jason), Cash (Amber), Brandi (Charlie), Phillip and Rusty; five great grandchildren Aliva, Gage, Parker, Ruger, and Colt; a brother Jake Worner, along with numerous nieces, nephews & extended family.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents John & Charlotte Worner, loving wife Barb Worner, a son George Worner, and sister-in-law Lois Worner.

Urn burial will occur at a later date in Bellville Cemetery where Russ’ final resting place will be beside his beloved wife, Barb. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Jefferson Township-Bellville Rescue Squad (470 Main Street, Bellville, OH 44813).
