Ruby F. (Ray) Ratleff, age 78, of Delaware, died Friday evening, July 22, 2005 at the Delaware Court Nursing Care Facility.

She was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 8, 1926. She was raised in Columbus by her mother, Bertha Shull.

Ruby worked for Grady Memorial Hospital for 25 years in the Central Supply Unit sterilizing instruments for the doctors to perform surgeries. She also worked for the Delaware County Home as a nurse’s aide, and in her younger days she worked as a waitress and cook at several restaurants. She also attended the Second Baptist Church.

Ruby was a very dedicated woman, at the age of 55 she finished up classes to earn her G.E.D., and also had taken many art classes. She was extremely talented with her hands, excelling in oil painting and crocheting. People would travel for miles for her afghans. Ruby also enjoyed spending time with her family, watching comedies and game shows on television, and visiting yard sales when she was in good enough health.

She is survived by her Sons: Tom (Marlene “B”) Ray of Mt. Vernon, Randy Ray (significant other: Crystal Ryan) of Delaware, and her Daughter: Evelyn Queen of Delaware, Sister: Dorothy Curnutte, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her Husband: John Ratleff on October 1, 1990, Daughter: Dottie Irene Ray, Step-sons: Dick and Norman Ray, Brother: John Widdifield, and Sisters: Virginia Lipps, Grace Gould, and Ruth White.

The family will greet friends Thursday from 12 – 2 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
