Roy M. Poole, 94, of Mount Gilead died Late Friday afternoon, June 13, 2008 at the Morrow County Hospital.

He was born in Fries, Virginia on February 11, 1914, the son of the late Fielden R. and Drucy S. (Bedwell) Poole.

Roy has been a member of the Mount Gilead community since 1957, moving here from Virginia.

With his friendly personality, Roy loved his work at Geyer’s Market in Mount Gilead where he spent time in various departments; their jack-of-all trades. He also helped operate the Sipe family farm in Edison, owned by his brother-in-law, Robert L. Sipe.

A devoted Christian and man of deep faith, Roy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Roy was a die hard republican and a member of their National Committee. He had various signed memorabilia from many of the past republican presidents.

Before his health ailments Roy loved tending to his flowers; especially his roses.

He is survived by his wife Jean (Corwin) Poole, whom he married December 24, 1970; a niece Shirley (Dean) Coe of Independence, Virginia; and a special little friend, Santana, his white poodle.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Herman, Reid, and T. Blaine Poole; and a sister Grace Sipe.

Friends may call on Monday June 16, 2008 from 5-7 pm. at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Braun officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.

Memorial contributions if desired may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 55 North Cherry Street, Mount Gilead.
