Roy Earl Wiseman, age 79, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday September 10, 2003 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born January 22, 1924 in Mount Vernon to Herbert and Esther (Vernon) Wiseman and had spent his lifetime in Knox County. Roy was a 1942 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and flew 34 missions on a B-17 “Flying Fortress”. He was discharged in 1945 and married Loretta G. (Bell) Wiseman on July 15, 1945.

Roy retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in Mount Vernon after 34 years service. After retirement, he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers at the Kokosing Dam near Fredericktown. Roy was an avid woodworker, making many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family to enjoy. He enjoyed many hobbies, including photography; piloting single engine planes, hunting, fishing and he loved to travel.

Surviving are his wife Loretta G. (Bell) Wiseman; two daughters Beverly (Jim) Sivits of Gambier, Gale (David) Harstine of Mount Vernon; 6 grandchildren Trevor (Jennifer) Purdy, Curt Purdy, Amy (C.J.) Ousley, Nicole (Marshall) Justice, Andrew Laymon, and Benjamin Laymon; 9 great grandchildren Taylor Purdy, Torrie Purdy, Trey Purdy, C.J. Purdy, Laken Purdy, Scout Purdy, Trenton Ousley, Gabrielle Ousley, and Byron Justice; his sister Betty (Frank) Devlin of Pompano Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Elaine (Wiseman) Kerr.

There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services with Rev. Jamie Gump officiating will be held at Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
