Roy Baker, age 76, of 104 Martinsburg Road Mount Vernon died Friday February 1, 2002 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon following a brief illness. Roy was Born July 21, 1925 in Knox County to Cecil and Nellie (Miller) Baker an had spent his lifetime in the Mount Vernon area.
Roy served with the U S Navy during World War II.
Surviving are his special friends Thomas and Norma Twigg of Mount Vernon; two sons George Mercer and Rick Mercer both of Florida, a stepson Larry Bowser of Las Vegas, Nevada; 3 step grandchildren; two brothers Raymond Baker of Centerburg and Ronald Baker of Mansfield; two sisters Sharon Rhodeback of Pataskala and Larene of Newark. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Louise (Parker) Baker in April of 2001.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Mr. Joe Blevins officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the funeral. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
