March 31, 1921 ‒ May 07, 2014
MANSFIELD: Rose Oliver of Mansfield passed away peacefully Wednesday morning May 7, 2014 in Winchester Terrace following several years of declining health. She was 93.
Born Rose Marie Spatar March 31, 1921 in Van Houten, New Mexico, she was the oldest of six children born to Frank and Lena (Frenchmore) Spatar. She was graduated from Raton (NM) High School in 1939, moved with her family to Canton in 1942, and then to Mansfield in the early 1950s.
She was a trained secretary and bookkeeper, having worked at several companies in Canton and Mansfield, most recently the Mansfield Holiday Inn Downtown where she spent over 20 years.
Everybody Rose met was her friend. She was the quintessential loving mother and grandmother, both to her extended family as well as her own. Her family was the most important thing to her and nobody could have loved their family more than Rose. She enjoyed being called Grandma by everyone in her life, but especially by her five adoring grandchildren. Family gatherings were her greatest joy in life.
A 60-year member of Linden Road Presbyterian Church, Rose served the congregation as elder, financial secretary and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Altrusa and P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter CJ.
She is survived by her son Bill of Westerville; grandchildren Jeff Magistrelli of Richfield, Tyler (Jane) Magistrelli of Las Vegas, Chris (Lauren) Oliver of Athens, Dina (Pat) Gleba of Cleveland Heights, and Maggie (Billy) Hite of Lewis Center; great grandson Liam Hite; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Spatar of Logan; and nieces and nephews Lynette, Frances, John, Cheryl, and Sean.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry L. Oliver on June 6, 1976. Also deceased are her daughter Sandra Magistrelli; all five of her younger siblings and many other relatives.
Her family asks all to join in celebrating her long and loving life and her passing to Heaven. They will receive friends Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Linden Road Presbyterian Church, 160 S. Linden Road, Mansfield, with the Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti and Dr. Ron Walker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Canton.
