Rosalind “Rose” (Richardson) Kennedy Smith, age 71 of Delaware passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Delaware Court Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born on November 11, 1938 in Delaware County to the late Paul W. and Betty J. (Gardner) Richardson. A graduate of Olentangy High School in 1956, she returned to Delaware in 2007 after residing in Pataskala for 22 years.
Throughout her life she had worked for National Packaging in Reynoldsburg, Meijers in Reynoldsburg, and at the Neipert Corp. in Delaware during her younger years.
She loved all the activities of the outdoors; fishing, camping, and boating. A collector of cat figurines, she enjoyed animals. A wonderful cook in her day, she was noted for her famous fried chicken and Thanksgiving turkey dinners with all the fixings.
A woman of endurance, she was strong willed and possessed a wonderful smile. She always expressed “put your best foot forward” and she did. Rose was happiest surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her giving open heart and willingness to help anyone in need.
She will be missed by her beloved family: children Gary Kennedy of Powell, Peggy (Larry) Smith of Delaware, Christopher Kennedy of Sunbury, 6 Grandchildren: Jackie (Shawn) Schertzer, Gabe (Tina) Smith, Mandi (Drew) Furgiuele, Ryan, Josh, and Logan Kennedy, 4 Great-grandchildren: Matthew and Amanda Schertzer, Blake and Gavin Smith, Sisters: Marilyn Bauder of Hilliard, Paula (John) Hall of Columbus, and numerous friends.
Friends may call 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware where a service celebrating her life will be held Monday 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Swanger officiating. Burial will follow in the Pataskala Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Monday.
