Ronald G. “Shaky” Severance
January 28, 1935 ‒ December 17, 2011
Ronald G. “Shaky” Severance, age 76 of Galena passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 28, 1935 in Columbus to the late Theodore and Thresa (Black) Severance. A US Army veteran, he had been an area resident for the past 40 years. He earned the name Shaky from his lifelong trade as a self employed drywall contractor.
He was a longtime member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. In his younger years he served as a golf caddy, where he developed a love for the game. He also enjoyed or hustled at the game billiards. With a green thumb for vegetable gardening, there wasn’t anything he could not grow. He treasured time spent fishing, especially for pike and walleye on the waters of Northern Quebec. His greatest passion was attending yard sales. As he would say looking for “good stuff” or treasures, which he would intern sell for good fortune.
Ornery to his core and always with a smile, he would do anything for you. A regular at the Big Walnut High School games, he was a fan of all sports, never missing a game of his children or grandchildren. He loved Amish country, especially their cooking. One to make a mess in the kitchen himself, his noodles and buckeye chocolate candy were famous. He was at his best starting an argument or stirring the pot as his family termed. Always generous and with the last word, he treasured his family, in particular his grandchildren. Simply put, he loved life.
He is survived by his loving and lifelong companion and wife of over 52 years: Suzanne (Mills), children: Ted (Brenda) Severance of Sunbury, Thresa (Ed) Karn of Galena, Lisa (Chuck) Stanley of Sunbury, grandchildren: Justin, Jordan, Seth, Jacob, great-grandson Zachary, brothers Dwayne Severance of Worthington and Billy (Deloris) Williams of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Thomas, Don, and Richard.
