Columbus, Ohio
Formerly of Mansfield, Ohio

COLUMBUS:  The world lost a loving, gentle, charmer when Ronald (Ron) G. Kochheiser passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, surrounded by his devoted children, just one month shy of his 81st birthday.

Born April 2, 1937 to parents Homer and Ruth (Farst) Kochheiser in Bellville, Ron was a member of the close-knit Bellville High School class of 1955 and proudly served his country in the US Army before meeting his wife, Suzanne, on a blind date, thanks to mutual friends.

Ron worked at Tappan for 28 years, sold sporting goods at Montgomery Wards, and brought smiles to co-workers, patients, and visitors at MedCentral Hospital in the security and the food and nutrition departments.

An avid sports fan, Ron was a natural athlete, playing tennis with his children at Maple Lake Park and cheering on Ohio State, Duke, and local high school teams, especially the Mansfield Senior High Tygers where he served as President of the Athletic Boosters.  He was honored to be inducted into the Clear Fork Athletic Hall of Fame, in 2009 as a member of the 1953 undefeated Bellville Blue Jays football team, and an individual multi-sport athlete in 2015. Ron enjoyed vacationing at Gem Beach, floating with friends, playing with his children and grandchildren on the beach, and taking his beloved dog, Bear, joy riding in his golf cart.

Ron devoted himself to his family and many close friends and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children Todd Kochheiser of Toledo, Scott Kochheiser and his wife Elise of Homewood, IL, and Lynn Kochheiser of Columbus; grandson Captain U.S. Army Ben Kochheiser, his wife Jessica and great-granddaughter Isabella Suzanne, currently stationed in Germany; granddaughter Noel Kochheiser; and grandsons Kason and Collin Cook; his sister Joan Echelberger and sister-in-law Genny Kochheiser of Bellville; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, and brother Lawrence Kochheiser.

Ron’s family will receive friends on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. officiated by Noel Kochheiser.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Ron’s memory to OhioHealth Hospice – Kobacker House, the extraordinary organization that cared for Ron and his children in the last weeks of Ron’s life.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
