Ronald E. Tarr, age 64, of Mount Vernon died on Sunday afternoon, January 22, 2012 in the emergency room at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by family. He was born on December 7, 1947 in Mount Vernon, son of the late Glenn W. and Madelene (Reynolds) Tarr.

Ron retired from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center with 30 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Thrall Lodge #170 of the F. & A.M. He was a certified locksmith and a licensed Ham Radio Operator. Ron worked with the communications for the American Red Cross. He was a former Auxiliary Patrolman for the Mount Vernon Police Department. Ron enjoyed woodworking, his HO scale trains, and traveling to Casinos. He loved to spend time with family, especially his grandchildren. Ron will be remembered for being that person who was always there to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed people and had many friends.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Linda (Stringfellow) Tarr; children, Kirk J. (Charity) Tarr of Mount Vernon and Susan A. Tarr of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Harley N. Tarr and Ryan J. Tarr; and a brother, John W. Tarr of Wisconsin.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Mound View Cemetery.
