BELLVILLE: A faithful Christian, Roma Alexander’s life was filled with faith, hope and love. With Christ and the power of His saving grace always on her mind, Roma was a faithful servant, sharing the story of His salvation to her children, grandchildren and friends.
Roma Mae Alexander, Christ’s humble servant, passed into His presence, Monday morning August 27, 2012 following an extended illness. She was 90.
Roma was born January 20, 1922 the daughter of Robert and Nina (Davis) McAuley. Before graduating from Butler High School in 1939, Roma was crowned Butler’s first homecoming queen.
Roma worked for the Sears Catalog Department, Keils Department Store, Hursh Drug, Garber Insurance Company, Reeds Department Store and United Telephone Company.
A loving mother and grandmother, Roma handmade clothing for her two daughters as they were growing up, including numerous cheerleading outfits.
Her home filled with the inviting aroma of homemade food, a wonderful cook and baker, it seemed as if Roma was baking something every week for family or friends. Family favorites included her key lime pie, Texas sheet cakes and chocolate chip cookies. Christmas time was when Roma along with her daughters, granddaughters and great-grandchildren would share the kitchen making Christmas cookies.
A loving grandma, Roma was proud of her grandchildren, watching them grow into wonderful adults. She was very proud and blessed to have had the opportunity of seeing five generations of her family.
Roma was a member of New Life Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and also helped with Bible School.
She is survived by her daughters Saundra (Steve) Jones of Mansfield and Vicki (Kevin) Timmer of Bellville; two step-children Charlene Payne of Shreve and Shirley (Kenny) Armstrong of Wooster; grandchildren Jennifer (Larry) Greer Annie (Glenn) Weirich, Stephanie (Les) Hollar, Sarah (Mark) Lind, Erica Bays, Travis (Jessica) Porter; step-grandchildren Mark (Jody) Payne, Hal (Kimberly) Payne, Cheryl (Joe) Fleming, Jack (Lauren) Armstrong; 16 great grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; two great great-granddaughters; one step great great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law Roxanna McAuley of Butler, Mary Royer of Dayton, and Ann Rener of Columbus; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Dwight Pritchard and second husband Cecil Alexander; sisters Ruth McAuley, Roberta Schroer, brother Richard McAuley; stepson-in-law Marvin Payne.
Her family will receive friends Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 10-11am in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where her funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Steve Kistler will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Central Ohio or New Life Church of Christ may be made through the funeral home.
