Roland E. Ireland, 98, of Mount Gilead, died Sunday morning November 19, 2006 in the Morrow County Hospital.

Roland was born in Climax, Morrow County, Ohio on September 19, 1908 the son of the late Orville W. and Jessie F. (Kellogg) Ireland.

In 1917 the family moved to Galion, Ohio. He graduated from Galion High School with the class of 1925 and attended Spencerian College in Cleveland, Ohio. He was employed as a gas station attendant, custodian with the public schools, a station baggage man with the New York Central railroad, a clerk with North Electric Company, and 21 years as a factory and production clerk with the Galion Iron works where he retired in 1971.

He was married to Irene H. M. Kline, formerly of Chatfield, Ohio, on July 5, 1936 in the First United Brethren Church in Galion, Ohio.

Roland was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a 56 year member of the Galion Lodge, #414 F.& A.M., the Galion Chapter #142 R.A.M, the Christian Endeavor International, Morrow County Historical Society, and the Mount Gilead Senior Citizens.

For Many years he was in Christian Endeavor having served as a delegate to eleven international and two world conventions. Early in the conventions he met Homer Resheaver where he received instructions in vocal solo work.

He was a member of the choirs of the United Brethren and First United Methodist Churches for more than 40 years and chorister for twenty years in those Sunday schools. He was also a member of the Messiah Chores and participated in other community activities.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene, and a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Ruth Busler Ireland.

He will be missed by his son and daughter-in law, Kenneth D. and Jane Ireland of Mentor, Ohio, three grandsons, David, Michael, and Christopher Ireland, several friends, and a very special friend, Sara Rittler of Cardington, Ohio

Friends may call on the family on Tuesday November 21, 2006 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Craven & Snyder Funeral Home, 67 North Main Street, Mount Gilead. Pastor Bruce Hartley will hold services there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
