Roger Lee Carr
June 25, 1943 ‒ December 09, 2009
Chesapeake, and formerly of Marion, Ohio
Roger Lee Carr, age 66, of Chesapeake, and formerly of Marion, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, December 9, 2009, at the Marion General Hospital following a brief illness.
On June 25, 1943, Roger was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Schaber) Carr. He graduated from New Bloomington High School in 1961.
Shortly following graduation, Roger met his wife to be, Nancy Cranston, at a footlong hot dog stand on North Main Street in Marion. They were married on November 1, 1964, and shared over forty four wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2008.
For over thirty years, Roger worked as an electrician for the Erie Railroad and later for ConRail. He retired several years ago.
With a love for the great outdoors, Roger loved traveling with his wife and daughter all over the United States aboard their RV. He was also a member of the F.C.R.V. Club, also known as the Family Campers and RVer’s.
An avid NASCAR fan, Roger often rooted for his favorite drivers, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart. In his younger days, he also loved a good drag race either on the track in LaRue or “not legally on the streets.”
A loving and caring man, Roger truly had a heart of gold. He also was known to be quite a talker, who never met a stranger and could gab with anyone for hours.
Roger will be sadly missed by his three brothers: Daniel Carr of Marion, Richard (Kate) Carr of Charleston, South Carolina, and Floyd (Bonnie) Carr of Indian Lake; two sisters: Donna Blair of Marion, Lois (Robert) Kisor of Mansfield; a most special granddaughter: Aryanna Penick of South Point; a son-in-law: William “Billy” Penick of South Point; his companion, Judy Hickok of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and father, Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Krista LeeAnn Carr Penick on January 19, 2009; two brothers: Franklin and Robert Carr; two sisters: Thelma Hogan, and Edris Spencer; sister-in-law, Louise Carr; and a brother-in-law, Virgil Blair.
Roger’s family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, Ohio, where services honoring his life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Thomas. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
