Roger F. Culler Jr.
March 17, 1943 ‒ December 22, 2013
Roger F. Culler Jr., age 70, of Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Country Court Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 17, 1943 in Mansfield, Ohio. Roger was a 1961 graduate of Lucas High School and enrolled shortly after in the United States Navy. He was a member of the First Church of God in Fredericktown
He was a bright spirit to everyone that knew him. Roger was constantly laughing, smiling, humming a tune and telling you about a good book he was currently reading, a movie you have to see or a recent joke he had just heard. He adored his children and grandchildren and taught them all how to play chess. We are certain his great grandson would have been the next pupil had time allowed.
When Roger was young, he taught himself how to play the dobro and guitar by ear and he enjoyed playing bluegrass music with the boys down at Sips Café. Thankfully, this skill has entertained hundreds of people over his lifetime. His passion for bluegrass and the late Johnny Cash was evident of his style of play. He enjoyed tractors, steam engines and of course steam locomotives.
Roger had a contagious spirit and touched many people on a personal level. He was the “genuine article”. He will be missed more than words can express and it will be hard to imagine not hearing him sing another song, play another tune, or tell another joke, but this Christmas he will spend with our mom, Jesus and of course Johnny Cash.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mary (Jeff) Stricker and Mandy Culler both of Fredericktown, two grandchildren, Zane Stricker and Andrea Stidham, a great grandson, Gage Stidham, two sisters, Joan Walsh of Butler and Judy (Bob) Reiter of Medford, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Culler Sr., his mother, Jane (Miller) Nelson, his wife, Sharon (Finley) Culler and step father, Art Nelson.
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown.
